Instituto do Patrocínio e Assistência Jurídica (IPAJ)

Institute for Legal Assistance and Representation (IPAJ)

The right to legal representation is a principle which is constitutionally enshrined in Mozambique.

The Institute for Legal Assistance and Representation (Instituto de Assistência e Patrocínio Jurídico, IPAJ), was created in 1994, under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice, to satisfy this constitutional requirement.

The statutes of the Mozambican Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados de Moçambique, OAM) say that members must provide free legal representation as one of their duties.
